Main research topic in Health research in the Country:
In 2002, the Armenian Government adopted a resolution on S&T Development Priorities which included among others Risk Factors and Human Health and Advanced Technologies (Biotechnology) as priority areas for development. Currently under operation arethe National Tuberculosis Control Programme 2007-2015 and Immunoprevention National Programme. Section on measures in the sphere of public health care is included also in the Poverty Reduction Strategic Programme.
Research structure:
The main bodies responsible for S&T policy-making, and R&D and innovation activities in Armenia are the Ministry of Education and Science (http://www.edu.am) and subbordinated to it State Committee of Science http://www.scs.am), the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (http://www.sci.am), and the Ministry of Economy (http://www.mineconomy.am) . Other branch ministries possessing R&D capacities are actually responsible for R&D in subordinated research institutions, including the Ministry of Health http://www.moh.am) , which incorporates 11 research institutes. Parliamentary Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (http://www.parliament.am/?lang=eng) is conducting S&T policy on legislative level.
Main grant schemes relevant to Health research in your country:
All resear institutes in Armenia can get budget funds via three main funding mechanisms, particularly, thematic (project based) financing, basic financing, and targeted research projects. Thus, thematic financing is directed to individual researchers and small research groups. Basic financing is allocated to research institutes for carrying out research in the field of general priority of the institute and maintenance of research infrastructure. Special purpose (targeted) financing is intended for important innovative wide-scale research and technological projects, which can incorporate several institutions, including industry and SMEs.
No specific grant scheme exists in the country focusing on Health theme. All research institutes and research groups are eligible to participate in Call for Proposals for thematic projects announced in all fields of science, including Health, and managed by the State Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science (http://www.scs.am )
