Thanks to the membership in the European Union the Czech Republic can use EU Structural Funds that partly supports human resources in science, infrastructure development in science and major program supporting science and innovation. The Czech Republic is divided into 8 NUTS regions including Prague. Rules of Structural Funds divides NUTS regions into two subgroups - those having GDP lower than 75 percent of the EU average and regions being above the threshold. Regions below 75 percent are entitled to draw money from all EU funds, regions above the 75 threshold are eligible in smaller part. All Czech regions except Prague are below the threshold, thus only Prague has limited access to the EU financing.

Priorities: Centres of Excellence, Regional Research and Development Centres, Popularisation of R&D and Research infrastructures.
Priority 3: Improving the quality and accessibility of public services- this priority aims to improve the quality and availability of public services in the following areas: social services, public health, employment and security, and risk prevention.
Priority 2: Tertiary Education, Research and Development - The global objective of this priority axis is innovation in the area of tertiary education towards cohesion with research and development activity, increased flexibility and creativity of graduates employable in a knowledge economy, and towards the creation of comprehensive and effective tools to support the innovation process as a whole.
2] Operational programmes only for Prague:
Mainly the priority axe 3: Innovations and Enterprise that emphasis improvement of Prague’s competitiveness through the development and effective use of its innovation potential and R&D infrastructure. The fulfilment of this objective will strengthen the region’s role as a centre of development and economic centre of the Czech Republic.
Priority1 : Support to development of knowledge-based economy – aims to strengthen the adaptability of employees on the labour market through development of their professional theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, and by enhancement and development of their qualifications. Further education in information and communication technologies, sustainable development and literacy will be also supported.
